Boot sequence, Emax HD

Boot sequence, Emax HD

2014-01-10 by niklas.ehrlin@...

Hi

Working on getting an old Emax HD (rack) going. I know that the internal HD is faulty, and now I'm trying to load the OS via the floppy (with EMAX-formatted DD floppys).
But my question is this: Is the OS originally placed on the HD on the HD models?
And if this is faulty, will the EMAX automatically try to load OS from an inserted floppydisk? Or is there anything els I need to do (changing the SCSIid's or something)?
And last - If the OS can be loaded by floppy, does it matter if the faulty internal HD still is connected inside?
Thanks for any advise.
Niklas

the os will be on the hd drive

no if you put a os disk in the floppy drive it will always boot from that first

no it does not matter if the faulty disk is still connected

but i would recomend removing power cable from hd as if its faulty it could cause damage to psu if the motor is stuck

Ok, it is not an SE, just HD. But it is back-compatible for earlier versions of the OS, or?

Would I be able to load sample-banks made in an HD-SE version at all?

you will need to upgrade to sehd there is a file in the file section todo this you need to use omniflop to write the img to disk

you then load this disk and it will up grade the disk then becomes useless as an upgrade disk as code blocks are written to it so that it will boot just as an sehd boot disk

then you can use any sample preset disk

Ahh, ok. I always thought that I could not use this upgrade, since I still have faild on loading any OS in the machine.

So I just prepare the disk with Omniflop and smack it in and it will both upgrade and boot, correct?

I used to own an Emax keyboard about 15-16 years ago, so if I get this running it will be hours and hours of nostalgia! Not bad for a dumpster find..;)

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
