Emax Plus unique version

2014-03-08 by David Sotnick

Hello Forum,

I have been running a version of Emax Plus OS which shows as "EmaxPlus10/16/89" on the Emax (and in hex dumps of the CF image).

Does anyone else have EmaxPlus10/16/89? I'm wondering where this version came from as E-Synthesist hadn't heard of it AND it appears to work with Sound Designer-Emax 1.2.1's Bank Transmit/Receive functionality (which was previously believed to have only worked with a version string like "Emax Plus rev4.0" (E-Synthesist's "tweaked" Emax OSs).

-Dave

I hadn't heard of this either- I'm sure someone on the group (krikor???) may want it.

Please upload it to the files.

Regards,
Ted

Okay I will upload the OS image as soon as I either get a VM on my Mac running EMXP or resurrect an old PC running "EMX" in dos mode to create an image of the OS floppy.

You will be needing a PC with internal FDD

You may be able to do a "dd" from a USB floppy on the Mac in Terminal, also.

The FDD functionality in OS X 10.6.x or later isn't really functional.
Mac with USB would be a G5 PPC and 10.4.11 has far greater support. I have run into this with supporting my old mac and running terminal commands to write .img OS7 disc images and format hfs.

I'd be surprised if it worked.

So I mis-remembered.
While I can dd in and out fine, it doesnt' make an actual bootable disk (though it seems like there should be SOME way to do it.
Elsewise how would Omniflop do it?

Looking at the dd file with "strings" I can see a date of 1986 in my PLUS1.0.

So it really would be interesting to see if there is any difference in functionality of this one….

Thx,
Ted

Re: [emax] Emax Plus unique version

2014-03-10 by David Sotnick

Hi All,

I sent esynthesist, a blank CF image with "EmaxPlus10/16/89" software on it and he kindly converted this to an .EMX floppy image. I have uploaded this to Andre's shared Box "Emax OS Floppies" folder. I have also uploaded it to the Yahoo group files section (EmaxPlus10_16_89.zip).

We're still not sure what the difference is between this OS and "Emax Plus rev1.0", but there are certainly some binary differences between the OSs.
