Emax II HxC / SCSI help

2015-01-14 by fairplay_to_you@...

Hi-

I am a working musician / vintage synth collector. I have an Emax II with a dead floppy. Originally it had some banks on the internal SCSI HD, but I inadvertantly erased them. I also own an early Emulator II, for which I bought the HxC floppy emulator SD card type. So, I have this Emax II and I have tried every combination of files, images, config files, etc. with the HxC floppy emulator and the closest I get is "please insert disc" or "this is not an Emax disk" errors. So, one question is : Has anyone on the list successfully used the HxC SD with an Emax II os ver 2.14?

Second question ; It does have SCSI, and I have an Iomega Zip 100 with some discs (not emax just blank zip disks). Can I do anything with that to load/store sound banks?

I have every factory CD rom of samples from Emax for their rack samplers (ESi i think?) with a SCSI CD Rom but the CD Rom drive is permanently set to ID #4 and the Emax II can't see it.

Thanks so much for any help.

John

Emax 2 will scan the SCSI bus, so if it can't see the drive, it's likely not compatible.
As to the Zip drive- you can use EMXP (assuming you have a PC) to create an HD image or search the archives for Andre's address and get added to the "box". there are bootable HD images there which can be downloaded and put onto a zip disk with EMXP.

HxC can be used with EMAX II. the vendor is here on the group, or contact him through his support.
He can probably give some guidance for usage / implementation.

if you have a usb or parallel zip drive or ide in your comp then you can write one of teds emax2 images to the zip disk

first and most you need a formated emax2 disk that has been imaged properly as a emx file which the hxc will use as a image

scsi0 on the emax 2 is used for the floppy disk

the emax2 cant read esi disks different format its loosly based on the eiiixp format so even though you have a cdrom the emax wont recognise the esi format

you will need a cd written with a emax2 format image this is easy todo just burn an image to disk as the emxp saves the file to the iso image format any burner will be able to write it to disk

the emax2 scans all the scsi buses for a scsi device attached once it cant find one it will then look for a floppy disk

Thanks for the quick reply. The HxC user group board is my next stop. I do have a PC, and EMXP so I'll try this zip 100 drive too. Thx!
