EMX Program - Can't get it to work!

EMX Program - Can't get it to work!

2003-08-19 by jdowning_wood

Okay, after many hours wasting my time with EMX and trying to
get it to work I have resorted to posting a message.

First, has ANYONE ever got this program to work? How!?!?

1st attempt seemed to work until I loaded the disk on th emax.
The sounds where all garbled (like a bad loop) but actually
loaded. But I was using DOS inside Win 2000 I found out that
was my mistake.

2nd Attempt. So I got out an older PC running Win 98 and
restarted in DOS mode, but now the EMX program says my
floppy disk sectors are bad (brand new DS/DD disk formatted on
the emax), even tried foramtting in EMX but got the same results.

3rd Attempt. Started from a boot disk, same results as 2nd
attempt.

Do I need to istall just MS-DOS on my HD? How?!!!

Any help would be great!

Thanks all

I've been able to make EMX work fine, doing it exactly as you have described
on your 2nd attempt. Have you tried different sample files? I found that
some of the files that are available seem to be corrupt, maybe you just got
unlucky & tried those files.

Thanks Brad,

I finally got it to work. Basically had to to do clean HD format and
install Win 98 (version A) and restart in DOS mode. For some
reason I couldn't get it to work from Win 98 version B? It was an
old machine so no big deal re-formatting, etc.

Interesting that it still won't format a Emax disk or OS without
errors, but will create the disks okay and verify them. All the ones
created so far work fine.

Thanks for the help!

I'm glad you got it to work, I din't even realize there was a 'B' version of
window 98. Now that I think about it, I think I also had to format the
disks on the Emax or they would not work.
