emax disc

emax disc

2003-09-28 by Kyle Kelley

I didn't know if it would be appropriate to ask, but I just recently bought an emax at a pawn shop, but it did not come with the factory disks. I printed the manual off the net, so I suppose I'll be able to get it up and running in a bit of a while (funny word choice there). I was just hoping someone could help me get a new disc that I can start up with. I also wondered if I had to use DS/DD disks or if HD discs work fine. Thanks.

Hi,
DS/DD's are best, but HD's will work with the HD hole covered.
I can supply Emax and Emax II OS diskettes, with a sample bank, brand new
DS/DD's. But I have to charge a nominal amount as I get loads of requests.
Contact me at info@... for details.

However I am sure someone on the list will be able to supply one for free.

Well in the last 24 hours, I've bought DD/DS disks, and formatted them using the emx program. i put the os on from the files section of this usergroup, and this is what I get:

After booting with disk in drive the emax says "loading software" while it makes the same noise of Click click click-da-click click click click-da-click and so on and so on. I wonder if maybe the os is bad, my emax disk drive is bad or the emx prog. I dunno. If you could help that would be cool. I would buy your set for newbies as you might call it if you think it will work.

Hi Kyle,

I'll recommend you to format the discs in the Emax and write the banks to the DS/DD disc from the EMX program. That'll work.

Be aware that Emx program must be run in a pure DOS box, not an emulated DOS box from windows.

Best regards

Brian

I'm afraid I have no start-up disks to try that... I
would have started that way in the first place...

Re: emax disc

2003-09-30 by hartmaan2003

Here's what I would do, as has been mentioned previously but maybe
not in this order.
1]Unzip the emx program to c:\emx under DOS
2]Copy the emaxos from the files section on this forum and place in
the emx dir
4]Launch EMX and at the menu run format emax disk (this was crucial
for me as previously I had used the EmaxII)
5]after that has completed - make an emax os disk from menu

Hopefully you can now place the disk in the Emax and boot it up :-)

There is the chance that the Emax FDD is dodgy!

P.S I am new to this and had a real time getting banks into the
beast - but trial and error prevailed.
