Peavey MIDI control of Emax and Emax II
2003-10-30 by Chris Strellis
I am now able to control the majority of filter, amplifier, LFO and velocity parameters from my faders. That's 32 faders! (I have to switch between two presets on the Peavey). I even have buttons to switch chorus on and off and to solo. What hasn't seemed to work is in getting buttons to assign the right wheel to pitch/filter/trem etc With an external sequencer driving the Emax I SE I can update controls in real-time but there is a delay in the parameter update and the sequence falters quite badly. This I put down to the under powered and overworked CPU in the Emax I. This doesn't happen so badly with the Emax II suggesting that the more powerful CPU in that is coping a bit better. Ultimately, the MIDI baud rate is a limitation with a lot of sysex information being transmitted by the Peavey. Overall, I'm extremely satisfied with the result. If people want more information on how to do it then I'll be happy to help although my previous post on this subject should be enough to get you going. Right...now to play with Wavemax and see if that works under STEEM, the Atari emulator for the PC. Cheers Chris
