Hi all. I´m new to the list - and do not own an Emu Emax yet. But I´m in the process of buying one. It´s an Emax II - and thats all I know. Is there anything that I should be aware of before buying? Any tips? What shall I look out for? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks Keld

I would try and find one at a music store such as guitar center
weve had numerous people come here that bought emaxs from ebay
only to find the sellers less than honest about the working order of the
product.
thats my opinion

At this age you should be aware of the following issues that could either be present or
will be present soon.
First off the Emax II's memory isn't expandable anymore if you have a unit that has 2Mb
or less. If it has 4Mb or more you can find some sources for memory, but it will probably
cost you more than you are paying for the Emax II itself.
The backlight on LCD. By now most are faded from their original luminescense and blue
color.
Floppy Drive. Not cheap to replace and more and more of them seem to be going out.
The Emax doesn't use your standard PC floppy drive. Only a few sources left for the
DS/DD floppies you will need too.
Hard Drive. If it does have a hard drive, especially an original one, they go out fairly
often. Replacing/Adding one is getting harder to because the Emax II doesn't work with
most modern hard drives and has a partition capacity of only 540Mb.
Power Supply. It seems this is something more and more people are having issues with.
I think one person on the list has found a suitable replacement.
Sound Library. Unobtainable from E-mu (as is any parts or support) if it doesn't come
with a good library already you are going to have to rely on this list and the Emulator
Archive to be able to build one.
