the beauty of the emax filter

the beauty of the emax filter

2004-04-07 by phonophobie

i just fell in love with the filter of my emax (1). i created some
awesome trumpet-like sounds. i never thought it can sound sooooo good!
I wonder what other emu samplers have such filter. i heard that emu´s
are always warm sounding machines but does have newer emu´s the same
filters?

The original EIII and the SP-12/SP-1200 all have similar filters and sound. I've never heard
an Emulator II other than on albums so I'm not sure what it's filter sounds like.

The EIIIx, like the Emax II has digital filters, they still have some of that original punch, but
the filter isn't as smooth. The ESi series was a refinement of the EIIIx. They all sound nice,
but my ESi-32 has a distinctly more clear and crisp sound when compared to what my Emax
SE HD sounded like when I had it.

thanx for info! i was also told the emax1 uses SSM Filterschips...

i remember someone talking about re-calibrate the emax1 se in some
way. i just wonder if i could calibrate my filters since they react
not always in same values. I noticed that when i turned up resonance
to the fullest - when playing the same note a few times - the filter
frequncies are different... can i calibrate this somehow?
thanx

you need the Must disk to calibrate the freq and resonance.

Hi Phono,

I gotta tell you, Phono is the name of the band I played keys in.
They are still in existance, but I had to quit unfortunately.

Anyway, I thought I might add, in case this wasn't already mentioned,
you may want to check your velocity settings in the dynamic
processing module (I have an Emax II so I'm not sure if it's the same
module). But, check the velocity to fc, q, etc. Also, you can check
the "lfo to..." settings.

Good luck!

jrb

Re: the beauty of the emax filter

it´s not any setting for the filter and resonance. i guess it is just
because my emax is about 20 years old... i just saw the must disk in
files area..but i ma not sure if it is complete (?)

phono is only the shortcut of my yahoogroup alter ego phonophobie. i
am not playing in your band ;-)
cheers
