memory installation..

memory installation..

2004-08-30 by blacsparc@...

Hi all,
I am new here. I have a question about adding memory to my emaxII. I got my first emax II in 1997, which was broken about two years ago after a drop on the floor.
I just bought 2 more II's, which are original factory models, no upgrades or harddrives(s/n 2122). Of course after booting up with my zip disk, I couldnt open half my old banks due to memory. Likewise, when I installed the harddrive from my old one into one of the new ones, I couldnt open most of those banks.
So yesterday, I took the daughterboard out of my old one and installed it onto one of the boards, easy. But it wouldnt recognise the ic's, and it seemed to reduce my existing memory in half. So I couldnt even open a couple banks that I just made. fortunately I was able to do something in the diagnostic section that got the memory back, not really sure what I did. I also got a message on booting up: warning need to recalibrate. thats gone now too.
Anyway, If anyone has any any info on whether I should try a different approach or give up, I would be grateful. I have a feeling that without the proper os disk, which is only good once, I am out of luck.

thanks, Antony West

You're not out of luck.

I once had a 2MB Emax II and an 8MB (parts Emax II) Once I had salvaged everything I could from the parts one I installed the mem board with it's 6mb into the 2mb Emax II. I had the same problem you had.

What I did was I called Emu Systems and they have a program (you'll need to find someone there who knows about this) They will go through a questions and answer phase with you where you enter codes into your Emax II in the diagnostic area and they give you replys and additional codes. At then end of this the Emax II will recognize the mem board and all the memory that is installed on it. You do have to know how much mem is in your current Emax II and how much is installed on the mem board.

Anyway call Emu and they should be able to help.

Good Luck,

David

Hi,
Phone E-mu Systems in the USA for an authorisation code for the memory.
They'll tell you the procedure.

Hi Antony

I had a similar problem with my Emax II. I solved the recalibration and the lack of half the memory issue by installing the latest Emax II OS2.14. After the new OS my Emax II work flawlessly :-)

I think you can download the OS from the download page in the Emax/Emax II group.

Let us know if this help.

Best regards
