nightrecords@... a \ufffdcrit : >How good is the sequencer from this thing? Help with more info on it.. Does >anyone use it at all? > >Thank you.. > > > > Hi! I've never even tried this thing, 'cos i'm using cubase on a computer. And cubase does right what i want. So i just use my Emax S.E. as a sound generator. But anyway i didn't like to use a 2x16 char LCD as a sequencer interface to handle my scores... The thing i find quite lazy is the absence of multi-trimbral mode with an external sequencer (i.e : i wanna play a piano on a full sized keyboard map on midi ch1, and a synth sound a full keyboard map too, on midi ch2). But this multi-timbral mode is surprisingly accessible within the internal sequencer of the Emax ... :((( Sorry for my english. I'm from Belgium (the french part of it). Regards, Jean-Marc.

well, I've only messed with it, it will record until you stop playing and hit stop, so looping sequences can be tricky, but the auto extend mode is cool, I think it is supposed to have 8 tracks, but I haven't bothered to get that deep. THe manual calls it a scratchpad sequencer, so dont expect much.

No, you play a phrase and the sequencer plays it, you play over it and keep going past the end and the sequencer will keep recording until you hit stop. There is no transport control, so this is a slight compromise. my advice? Get an MPC if you want a sequencer.

I don't think you can edit either. What you play, is what you get. Best to download your sequence from a hardware squencer or computer. The Emax and Emax II sequencer is what is known as a scratch pad sequencer. It has no edit functions, no quantizing, no putting patterns together in a song mode. It simply records incoming MIDI events in realtime and plays them back. It was primarily designed so that you could layout short ideas before you forget them or so that you could dump sequences from a proper sequencer on a computer and them playthem back through the Emax II using it's supermode. I personally have never found any real practical songwriting uses for it, but it has been handy on a few occasions for dumping show opening instrumentals into it and having someone else press start before the band comes onstage. Of course, this was back in the day when I used a Comodore 64 running Master Tracks Pro as my sequencer and there was a noticeable load time between songs which you don't want at the beginning of a show.
