Hi everyone, Just wondering if there is an emax I to .aif or .wav conversion utility available for the Mac. Happy Holidays, Matt Miller www.millertone.com

Nothing that can get the audio portion off of a floppy disk, but any software that can
perform MIDI Sample Dump Standard (SDS) transfers can retrieve/send samples via a
MIDI cable.

What if I have the .EM1 files on my computer already? -Matt --- In emax@yahoogroups.com, "John Silveria" <emaxjs@s...> wrote: > Nothing that can get the audio portion off of a floppy disk, but any software that can > perform MIDI Sample Dump Standard (SDS) transfers can retrieve/send samples via a

I've tried a couple of methods for stripping out the sound data from an Em1 file and
nothing has produced desirable results. I think the main issue is that each sample within
a bank can have a different sample rate so extracting the data at the right rate is nearly
impossible.

Gentlemen, In the files section of this group there is a folder called Emu2wav containing a program I wrote some time ago. It converts .em1 files to - you've guessed it - WAVs. Although the exe is compiled for a PC the source code is there to perhaps compile for a Mac? Perhaps a PC emulator for the Mac can run this simple progam. Please read the readme there too. Chris your program is one of the ones I've tried and not that I don't completely appreciate
the effort but what I'm left with, even with banks that I've created the samples for, doesn't
sound like the originals. I assume this is due to not knowing the original sample rate?
Isn't there also the issue that it's creating 16 bit samples out of em1 files which are
actually 12 bit samples? I believe the unwritten rule is that em1 files are from Emax 1
banks and em2 files are from Emax II banks. For me it was just something I
experimented with. I imagine with some effort in Sound Forge I could edit the results
back into something that sounds like the original samples.

I assume this is due to not knowing the original sample rate? Yes - you have to experiment - guess using 39000 first - please read the readme. > Isn't there also the issue that it's creating 16 bit samples out of em1 files which are > actually 12 bit samples? Emax stores the samples as 8 bit u-law which my program expands to 16 bits linear. > I believe the unwritten rule is that em1 files are from Emax 1 > banks and em2 files are from Emax II banks. Correct - em2 files will open directly into your 16 bit WAV editor of choice - open them as RAW PCM. Best regards Chris

I am able to open .EM1 files using Sound Hack on the Mac. The samples playback poorly and a message comes up, upon opening the file, that asks me to input the proper header info - but that is just a bit (no pun intended) over my head I'm afraid. Any ideas? Thanks, Matt Miller
