The Voynich Swan Song* for Emax track

The Voynich Swan Song* for Emax track

2005-11-11 by Chris Strellis

Hi,

You might personally find it interesting - a track made using just my
Emax SE. A song made from one synth yes is very interesting - but a
song using a sampler? well....it's a bit like saying I made a track
just using my PC....it doesn't really hack it - what do you think? :D

My Emax is going to make room for the Juno 106 I picked up recently.
Here's a tribute to my Emax. Sad I know but inspiration can come from
bizarre sources!

Don't worry I'm not leaving the Emax camp completely.

Chris :)

P.S. Does anyone want to make an offer on my Emax SE? Great working
condtion - floppy OK, backlight OK, all keys and buttons work, sliders
OK and sample library.

I'm based in Cambridge, UK. Price 250GBP plus shipping otherwise it's
eBay. I have a 100% positive 242 feedback ID: synthasy2000

Well, I started off with my emax and made many songs with it alone. It is totally possible to make a great song with one machine, it just takes work. Now I have a pretty decent studio with lots of gear which can create a much more full dynamic range of sounds. That being said, depending on a songs intention, sometimes simplifying the song to one machine can be what makes it cool. I have heard a few amazing albums composed almost entirely on an Emulator II alone. In some cases a full album of songs made on 1 sampler could definitely lack some luster though. I just don't know if I agree with making a generalized statement that a good song cannot be made with 1 sampler because music is totally subjective.

An original idea... making tribute songs each time we sell one of our
samplers or synths :-)

Nice song ! Did you arrange this completely with the EMAX scratchpad
sequencer :-)? That would be really E-max-max-max !

Glad that you keep your EMAX-II. It would be really sad that the
inventor of the EMU2WAV program would completely leave the EMAX
community.

It's a nice way to say bye bye and perhaps rethink why you are selling
it? Do this for each synth that you want to keep too. You'll get to
know it better and realise what are its strengths and weaknesses.

Thanks - that would really be something!

There are no sequences in the track and no MIDI was used so no
quantization either! It was all played by hand and the audio looped.
You can hear some slightly off timing - but it gives it an organic feel.

It wasn't done in one take though ;)

He he - Emaxes rock - every one should have one in their collection
even if it does make you sound like late 80s Depeche Mode - no bad
thing IMHO.

Cheers

Chris
