EMAX PLUS has default external SCSI ?

EMAX PLUS has default external SCSI ?

2006-05-21 by esynthesist

Does anyone know if an EMAX PLUS has an external SCSI connector by
default ?
I saw a rackversion of an EMAX PLUS sampler yesterday, having the
specifications "EMAX PLUS SE 'with SCSI'" printed on the front of it.
But I couldn't find an external SCSI connector on the back.
On emulatorarchive I read that the PLUS versions should have an
external SCSI connector.

I'm a bit confused...

Yes, it was a sticker upgrade.
I guess these only have internal scsi, don't they ?
But they should be easily expandable I guess...

Well the sticker upgrade explains it then. However upgraded it didn't install an external scsi port.

Any Emax HD SE can have a scsi port added, the Emulator Archive gives great instructions on how to do it. This machine having the plus OS already makes it an easy upgrade, you just need an internal external scsi adaptor and an internal scsi cable, and a hole punch or drill :)

Re: EMAX PLUS has default external SCSI ? - extra parts....

2006-05-21 by ted Summers

The rack emax that I bought off ebay recently had an external scsi
port that looks factory to me. I can't test if it is good or not as I
stole the chips and connector to make my keyboard SCSI, and when it
arrived it was already "non-working".

I do know it basically had a bad floppy controller chip for sure,
and that the fuse holder is missing.... dunno how much of the rest of
it is good or bad, but I know the scsi chips worked in my keyboard,
and so I might have parts available if interest is out there.... for
instance for the board that already has the external scsi connector
there, ready to be attached to.....if someone didn't want to do that
soldering / modification to rev 1 boards it would be a good choice.
They are rev 3 boards...

Or for someone who has a flaky emax, these might enable you to make 1
good working emax set.... the jacks off one of the boards were broken
in shipping, but if you had one or two ports that need replacing,
then you would have some to trade out...

just a couple of ideas....

thanks,
Ted

To Route 66

2006-05-21 by ted Summers

I know on another post you had said someone else email may not have
gone through, but I have emailed you several times over the past year
with no response.

Although I now have made my keyboard scsi from the rack I got off
ebay (if you saw my other post), I now have a rack emax that no
longer has the scsi chips. Are you still looking into making this
upgrade available??? I am sure there are still a few people out there
wondering about the availability of this upgrade.

Thanks,
Ted

Ted
Yes well I found the chips but more is needed to make the upgrade than just the SCSI chip set.

Re: EMAX PLUS has default external SCSI ?

2006-09-10 by esynthesist

Hi guys, here's a small update on the "emax plus without external
scsi" topic...

Yesterday we checked that EMAX PLUS SE racksampler again - the one I
was talking about before.
The sampler is an original factory EMAX PLUS SE version, not an
upgrade as I mentioned before. There's no upgrade sticker, all
printing is done on the frontpanel itself.
But as I said, this machine has NO external SCSI onboard.
Emulatorarchive says that EMAX PLUS always shipped with external
SCSI, so I guess I found yet another "emax version": the PLUS without
external SCSI :-)
The machine has a very low serial number, so maybe that's the reason.
Who knows ? (Dave Rossum :-)

The sampler has a PC333 rev B board, and internal SCSI on the main
board. I didn't buy it yet however because the display is giving
trouble: after using the EMAX for a while and pressing some buttons,
the display shows a black bar on the first line and a blank second
line and it won't show anything else anymore. The sampler still
works, but of course it's hard to use that way.
Anyone experienced this problem yet ??
