Real time performance controls

Real time performance controls

2006-09-21 by Alastair Gibbs

Hello everyone,

I have recently got hold of an Emax SE (non HD but with a SCSI port)
which I am very happy with particularly as I have heard that the SCSI
ones are fairly hard to come across.

I used to own an SP12 turbo which I am beginning to miss only due to
its realtime tune or decay manipulation that you could perform with
the sliders. I have been messing around with the Emax for a while
now and the nearest I have been able to come to this functionality is
using the mod wheel of my controller to manipulate the decay envelope
and using pitch bend to momentarily change the tuning.

So...what I want to do is replicate the SP12 realtime sliders in the
Emax whilst triggering the samples over MIDI. Does anyone know how
to:

 i) make a permanent (ie not momentary) tuning change to a particular
voice using a realtime control?
ii) change the sample end trim point or envelope to shorten or
lengthen the sample?

It has occured to me that you might be able to use a programmable
MIDI slider box such as the Peavye PC1600 to send sysex commands but
I haven't attempted anything like that before. Has anyone done this
to good effect?

All suggestions welcome! Thanks.

Yes I have - check the archives for Message #1567.

The problems is that the new value doesn't "take" until a new key is
pressed or a new MIDI note. Also with MIDI info coming in it is very
slow and clumsy and not smooth at all. When the sequencer is playing
this stops on receiving sysex.

I have a PC1600x, it works with my emaxII fine. I actually am selling my
PC1600x if anyone is interested. I bought a motormix so, I no longer
require the PC1600x.
