midi sample dump

2008-04-18 by aseven634

hi i am trying to use awave studio to transfer samples to an emax SE i
had some luck with it though it was a tad difficult before i upgraded
to windows xp from win98 but am now getting only the ACK error from
0000 no matter what the settings are does anyone know how to get
around this or of a decent and easily available software that could
perform that SDS transmit function instead? i know soundforge will but
i cannot find an early copy of it and am not willing to pay for a new
copy for this feature alone particularly since i am not sure if a
current version (i believe they are on 9.0 now) will still work with
an emax any info would be greatly appreciated.

I've never had any luck with awave either. I use soundforge 8.0d and it
transfers samples to my emaxII via sds with no problems. copy and paste
link----- http://isohunt.com/torrents/?ihq=soundforge ------you'll find
torrents for soundforge 5 thru 9. you'll need a torrent client to
download, I use utorrent, but they're all good.

thanks very much for the info its good to know soundforge does work,
but i still seem to get this "bad ACK" message when i try to send
samples it used to work in awave when i selected the option send the
sample slower but that doesn't seem to work anymore, are there
specific settings i should use with soundforge? any info would be
great and thanks again!

Re: midi sample dump

soundforge is pretty much ready to go.
open a sound file in soundforge. Soundforge will send the sample loop
points to emax so go ahead and set the loop points within soundforge
and do whatever effects processing you want. and when you're ready to
send the sample...
1.go to Tools menu
2.select Sampler from Tools menu
3.in Sampler window click Configure
4.select Midi not Scsi
5.select your midi devices (probably mpu-401)
6.select the midi channel your using (channel 1)
7.it also helps to set the sample bias to 15 so when you send the
sample to emax it'll be at key c-1 instead of a-0
8.leave open-loop option unchecked.
9.click OK
and now all you'll have to do is click send in the sampler window and
it'll send the sample to your emax via sds with loop points already
set. you'll have to enable looping with emax but the the points will
be where you set them with soundforge.

midi sample dump

2013-04-09 by papluss

hi.
before i purchase it, i would like confirmation that using OSX and DSP Quattro, you can send/receive midi sample dumps to/from the Emax1 via midi cables.

Is it the best/cheapest program to do it?

Is it dealing with .em1 files?

thanks
dave

Hi
i think you can try it in the DSP-Quattro demo. It works on my machine
using OS 3.2, i have poblems with all other OS but it is not related to
Quattro but to the emax (i have the same problems using the serial transfer
via EMXP)
it does not include the EMAX format floppy image, it is just midi sample
dump one file at a time.
best
K

thanks for that Krikor, but the SDS is not supported on the demo version.

Is DSP4tro able to play an .em1 file as well?

anyone using this setup on OSX 10.6 or 10.7?

thanks

I didn't know it was locked in the demo.
It doesn't read emax prog files.
you can only transfer single samples, stereo samplesare transfered as 2
separate samples

Re: midi sample dump

2013-05-22 by xtr909x

I am a Mac user and the midi SDS dump is a headache.

I've tried almost every way to transfer a sample from mac to emax using usb interfaces and i never made it

using PPC OS9 i've tried recycle in sds mode, and alchemy with a midisport interface. using ppc OSX tiger and C6 sysex tool using the midisport and other interfaces.
same on Intel machine using leopard (10.5.8)

the only way I can do it is using sound forge 7 or early (using same usb interfaces) in PC.

I get the bad ACK error right afert I dump from mac, no matter what size, bitrate or resolution has the sample.

I've tried everything. people say that SDS is slow blah blah. I have enough time, but no way to do it (in mac of course)

so, good look and if you make it, please tell.

Re: [emax] Re: midi sample dump

Hi
Since I upgraded my emax to a hd/SE I can't use it anymore, unless I load with non hd/SE OS, I tried all other OS, and transfer with emuser won't work too.
I'm gonna check the board next time I'm on it, maybe it's only a chip that needs to be reseated. At least I hope so.

Re: midi sample dump

that happened to me once. are you sure that you have updated the emax HD with the SE/HD disk and not with the SE one? i think these are not the same.
maybe the only difference between the disks is the OS, but that worked to me.

Re: [emax] midi sample dump

2013-05-23 by krikor kouchian

Is there really two different SE upgrades? i thought it was only the SE bit
upgrade in the ROM, then the HD is just an OS update.
I upgraded my EMAX to SE with the upgrade disk on the User download section
of the group.
Anyway once it is upgraded i don't think i can re upgrade it.
And i tried all different OS available.

Birdspotting: The elusive E-mu Emax Plus

2013-05-24 by Michael Padilla

For a brief coffee break from the usual (but most excellent!) Emax technical discussions:

A wee bit of emu (E-mu) birdspotting today. A rare example of the elusive Emax Plus has been spotted - an Emax Plus keyboard (non-HD).

It's shown in the background of a photo for an eBay listing for: "EMAX I - II SoundDesigner RS422 Serial cable to Macintosh"

eBay listing 181134983159

(selling the cable, not the keyboard)

Perhaps an Emax Group member?

No I'm not the seller.

If anyone else has rare E-mu birdspotting references, please do post (e.g., Emax HD Retrofit badged keyboards, Emax keyboards with the later surface menu variation, IKEs, etc).

Best wishes,

Michael

Someone on eiiiforum just bought an Emax Plus keyboard also (for 40 EUR !).
He posted this link with picture of his Emax: http://flic.kr/s/aHsjFqAHkX

I happen to have one of the prototype Emax Plus rack units (serial 002), of which I have posted a picture in the photos section a while ago.

Thanks for the link. Wow. I forgot about the "Rambird" circuit board humor. I miss the old E-mu Systems....
