Emax I/II VFD Display?

Emax I/II VFD Display?

2008-06-14 by plus_321

Hello,
   Came across this today.

http://matrixsynth.blogspot.com/2007/04/sequential-circuits-studio-440-with.html

(Studio 440 simply modded to have a VFD rather than LCD).

VFD supplier: http://www.noritake-elec.com/tversion.htm

Anyone ever try this with an Emax I or II? This would be amazing if
it could work.

It looks realy good, the only concern as far as I know would be voltage. Just find out about
the aspects of the original Emax LCD and compare it.

Now, personally I would use the same blue backlight the Emax has to keep it original, but
that is just me.

you would not connect the high voltage for the inverter and instead
run a line from +5v for the backlight, just like if you were going to
use an LCD like in Emax II. I bought spares that are exact duplicate
EL backlight that literally plugged in to my Emax I, once I put the
pins on.

There is a 1MM differential in one dimension, and 8MM longer, but it
would depend on the hole placement whether that would have any actual
mounting issue.

That is looking at CU16025ECPB-W2J. You would have to have the N01
connector.

If the mounting is not an issue, then it could certainly work..

Regards.
Ted
