More Emax fun!! I need to empty my RAM, but nothings happening.

2008-12-21 by bty54193247

Hello all,

Well, I'm still having fun and games with my Emax II's.

On my Emax II keyboard I'm trying to erase everything from my ram, but when I use:

Master >Erase all, etc nothing happens. The memory usage remains the same......I now know
why I can't load multiple disc banks!!

Does anyone know why this is happening? If yes, could someone please let me know how I
can solve this problem?

Many thanks in advance.

All the best

Dave

There is no need to empty RAM via MASTER > ERASE to load multiple
disk-banks,just load it/them. How does your Emax behave when you try
to load, does it load anything, let's say the first floppy ? Does it
show insert Disk 2 etc. then in the display, where does it stuck ?
Does your Emax abtually have enough RAM to load those banks ???!

Hello,

Many thanks indeed for your reply. It turns out my recent purchase, and new addition to
my collection, rather than having 2mb RAM, it only has 1mb......time for a RAM upgrade I
think!!
If I wasn't having such a weekend with my Emax II rack I would have checked my available
memory before I posted a question on the forum :)
Many thanks again.

All the best

Dave

I'm pretty sure you aren't going to be able to upgrade that unit. The
1Mb Emax II requires a daughterboard and I think those have been
impossible to find for almost a decade now.

Hello John,

Another Emax II bites the dust. The power supply has just died on my Emax II rack, in
addition to the output board fault I mentioned in one of my other posts :(
My Emax II rack has a daughter board fitted with 8mb of RAM.......may sound like a stupid
question, but could I use this daughter board/RAM in my 1mb Emax II keyboard?
Would it just be a case of fitting the daughter board in my keyboard, and away I go, or
would I need to perform any software trickery to get the keyboard to recognize the extra
RAM?.......If the RAM upgrade works I would be in a position to part out the rest of my
Emax II rack. I'm going to have to keep the floppy as a back-up, but the rest of the
components would be available.
I look forward to hearing from you.

Happy holidays!!

All the best

Dave

Why not simply fix or replace the power supply? Its a shame to reduce a perfectly good 8MB Emax
II to spare parts and scrap when it could still enjoy a long and happy life of music making :)

Merry Christmas!

Hello,

I'm getting my Emax II rack checked over to see if the power supply, and output board can
be fixed.....I totally agree with what your saying, it would be such a shame to scrap it, but
if it's going to cost £200 - £300 to get fixed, it really wouldn't be worth doing, as I can
pick-up a fully working Emax II rack for £150 - £200.
I'll let you know how I get on.

Very best wishes for the New Year!!
