Floppies won't read - "Disk not Formatted!" Error.

Floppies won't read - "Disk not Formatted!" Error.

2009-04-26 by George

Hi,
A while ago I purchased an Emax II and it came with the original Floppy Library set. Most of them won't read, I always get a blinking "Disk not Formatted!" error. The only set that would load was the "Stereo Grand Piano" 4 Disk set. But as of today even those won't load anymore? Does anyone know why it's doing that? Thanks.

George
P.S. The original owner was a smoker and the Emax and the disks were kind of crutty. Could it be that the floppy head needs a cleaning or something??!!

Take out your floppy drive and clean it with some contact cleaner. I
just saved 2 Emax flippy drives that way.

This is great advice my fellow Emaxer is giving you............
I too have save two drives by cleaning them, but did it without removing them by using a drive cleaning kit from Office Depot.
It has a disk with a kind of fabric disk inside that you drop the alcohol cleaning solution it comes with onto the fabric..................run it a few times by trying to LOAD the disk and it just might come around without any disassembly.
Best of luck,
Dave
