Emax

My EmaxII came with a new hard drive that I had to instal..I have the 
machine default to the hard drive to boot..it seems to boot but tells 
me that it has a media error altho the disk came with a list of 1800 
presets that are supposed to be on the drive..has anyone else had 
this problem..thanks

In my experience the message "SCSI Media Error" is an almost guranteed sign that the 
drive is dead or dying.

Exactly who did you get it from? E-mu hasn't supplied hard drives for the Emax II in 
years. They discontinued their support of the Emax II sound library about 4 years ago. Is 
it an internal or external drive? Lastly, is there a chance the drive was damaged in 
transport?

I bought it from the guy I got the machine from..It
has Emu on it and on the paper with the presets..looks
new but who knows..

Well, that would be a first for me. E-mu inlcluded a 40Mb, then a 105/127 Mb internal 
hard drive in their turbo units. The drives were Quantum if I remember right. I've never 
heard of E-mu putting their name on a hard drive nor have I heard of them inlcuding a 
preset data sheet with the units. Either way the drive would have to be at least 5 years 
old as the Emax II was pulled out of production around then.
