Emax II Service manual plea

Emax II Service manual plea

2009-11-09 by chevytravelleruk

Hi all

I have an Emax II Turbo keyboard which has developed an intermittant fault.
Periodically, some of the keys fail to trigger and this has now worsened so that certain number buttons don't respond either. Now I believe that I must have a failing Scanning chip in the Emax somewhere, but sadly, I don't know how to locate/replace it. Does anyone here have a service manual they would be willing to sell/copy?.. or could anyone advise me which chips need changing and their locations?..
I would be prepared to pass this on to a reputable repairer/engineer(I am London based), but sadly they seem to be few and far between these days.. so any recommendations there?..

Help

first thing to do is open the machine a reset all socketed ic then put the machine back to gether and try again the ic chips can work loose or curode use deoxit to clean the pins on the ic do 1 chip at a time get a white marker and put an arrow on the chip and the pcbthe arrow pointing up on the ic and then place an arrow facing down pionting to the arrow on the ic that way you wont lose the orientation of the ic

Are you sure it isn't just the key and switch contacts?

I don't think so.. the fact that certain groups of keys stop working coupled with the failure of some of the front buttons seems to point the finger of blame at the scanning processor..

Re: [emax] Re: Emax II Service manual plea

2009-11-10 by Ted Summers

The keys are in a matrix on Emax 1, if Emax 2 is similar it could be the ICs
that interface to that section of the matrix or a single connection that is
common to all the keys and one connection for all the panel buttons......
I don't have a schematic at work to check at the moment.....

no Keanu / red pill related jokes, please......

Just a thought.

Ted

Just FYI: www.musicparts.com are selling the Emax-II service manual as an online PDF. Perhaps a little bit expensive, but I think they are the only source...

We should all band together and paypal $1 into a fund, get this .PDF and post it in our downloads section. It has certainly been a very desired document.

well that's quite a good idea and I'm happy to share mine, now that I have it, but how do we do that without running into copyright issues?.. this is still a manual that is for sale and is watermarked with MusicParts.com.
Is there a moderator/administrator who can decide on this?.. if we can come to a consensus/agreement, then I am happy to upload it

the only people that can tell you who has the writes are emu as they will have licensed it to who sells it that is if music parts have the lincense

emulator archive has the license for the emax1 schem and uses the money to help with the cost off the his site

The watermark does pose a problem to actually 'post' it here online, so maybe you could share or 'loan' it directly by email to those that actually need it. I would definitely be interested in the manual if there are any technical notes about the SCSI interface and its 'hard' requirements or if there are various modes that would make a wider range of devices compatible. Like why does an Apple CD150 work but not a CD300, or why aren't all Toshiba 4x SCSI drives compatible?

I would love to know why my Nomai drive just won't work, and if I could remove a pin for example in an external 25pin cable to get it or my other SCSI-2 devices working.
