Out of Memory Error

Out of Memory Error

2010-06-22 by Ted Summers

So I was starting to actually try and use my emax 2 this last weekend,
and ran into trouble.

Any Emax 1 disk I try and load, it starts loading and says "Out of
Sample Memory".
But Emax 1 only has 512K. So why can't the Emax 2 use an Emax 1 disk?

Am I missing something?

Regards,
Ted

Hi Ted,

I recall that there was a limitation on loading very full Emax I banks into a 1MB Emax II because
some memory was still needed to do the sample decompression. But that should only be affecting a
few Emax I disks. How much memory is remaining before you attempt to load the bank? Can you
load individual presets from Emax I disks?

if its a 1mb machine that might be the problem as the 512k being 8bit data will double when its put into the emax2 as its put into 16bit data structure the problem might be that it uses some of the memory for other duties so tht the full 1mb might not just be for samples i dont know about the emax2 as i never owned 1

but my other samplers use memory for sequecer data and fx might be the same for the emax2

That's right, The Emax II wants to convert it to 16 bit. Then you run out of memory.

back in the day, I converted all of my emax 1 discs (over 200) to emax 2 by updating the software. I never ran into a memory problem.
