Emax buttons

Emax buttons

2011-05-18 by Christopher K Moffatt

My buttons are getting harder to get a response sometimes. Especially when
using the cursor keys under the display, the actual display moves...lol Can
anyone tell me the best course of action to clean the contacts please.

Regards

Chris

I think I can help as I have experience in this type of membrane contact issue, in particular with my Korg Polysix. The emax uses the conductive pad on rubber for its buttons. You can try opening up the case, removing the boards to get to the pads. First clean the pads and the contact surface on the pcb board with rubbing alcohol and a cotton swab. Then I'd recommend getting what's called caikote 44. It's conductive paint that you can use to repaint on the pads on the rubber buttons and costs about $10. After that you should have no problems for a long time.

Check out this link: http://matrixsynth.blogspot.com/2010/03/korg-polysix-keyboard-repair.html Note the rubber contacts they are repainting. You would essentially be doing the same job only it's applied to your emax buttons. Same theory should apply.

Come to think about it, if your display is moving around then you might just not be making good enough contact with the PCB contacts. You should open the board up and tighten everything, make sure you are making correct contact before doing the contact repair method.

Many thanks for your help on this one, I'm going to have a look at the
weekend.

Do you know of any sites I can get some sounds that I don't have to pay for.

Sure, no problem. Check the links section of this group. There's a dope link with about 95 disk images from the EOS Emax I library! Great stuff! Digging the Congas disk which I've found is the same sample set the artist Lifelike used for "L.O.V.E. is what you need" if you are into french house/electro. Also, the files section has a few good images, like a TR808 kit and DMX kit, etc.
