Low gain/ no signal on sampling inputs

Low gain/ no signal on sampling inputs

2011-11-26 by jdchevallier

So after being content for a long time simply playing the large library of disk my emax se rack came with I decided to sample some drums today. Do my dismay there seems to be minimal/no signal coming into the unit. The VU has 3 bars and is set to +40. I've tried several signal sources and none make a difference. Does anyone have a sense of what might be wrong with my sampler???

Thanks!

Joel

I tried my Jupiter 6, an iPod, and a turntable, all directly from the devices' outputs into the emax to no avail.

SOUNDS LIKE YOU HAVE A ADC PROBLEM

send analog board to me and ill check it if i cant fix it i have spares

first where do you live if you are in us ask ted to have a look if in uk you can send to me jammie logan
synth and sampler repair
42 glastonbury crescent
walsallws3 2rf

or you can send it to epr electronics as they are authorized emu repair services

but be pre pared to pay mega bucks as they charge $80 for diagnostics if you dont get it fixed by them

Jammie,

Thanks for the generous offer. I'm in the US, so I guess Ill reach out to Ted.
If I can figure out a way to edit samples without buying an older computer and send via midi perhaps this isnt such a big deal. Can this be done with any software than runs on a new Mac?

Thanks again!

You can hook it up to a PC using http://www.emxp.net/ + a small
electronics project to convert the serial to USB properly.

Or buy an Apple II and use some old software

Thanks Nik, but was hoping against hope that there would be a solution using my new Mac/that doesn't require me purchasing a pc or older Mac.

Re: [emax] Low gain/ no signal on sampling inputs

2011-11-26 by jack

not that i know of

emxp is good i use it all the time for making disks

sample wrench is another good program but pc only

get youyr self a mac IIci fx si se/30 i see them for sale all the time in the usa going for $30-80

just download image and your away i have fitted scsi to cf drive in mine quiet

i have several old macs and pc for just this type of thing as newer comps dont cater for the old software i have atari,s aswell for the same reason

midi timing is rock sollid on an atari so all my midi gets done on that with the atari as master midi clock

Re: [emax] Low gain/ no signal on sampling inputs

2011-11-27 by Nik Kinloch

Hey Jack, nice one mate!

I'm doing fine, windy weekend up here, but going mountain biking
tomorrow! Hope you are well down there.

I was having second thoughts about getting the screen done, but then car
broke down again yesterday and hand to get two batteries = 180, plus
TAX, plus MOT and service, plus insurance... so I guess that will just
have to wait :-/

Cheers,

Nik

Re: [emax] Low gain/ no signal on sampling inputs

2011-11-27 by Joel-David Chevallier

So I purchased DSP-Quattro in a moment of desperation, hoping to get
samples transferring to the emax. I've resampled and I'm sending over
in 12-bit, but I keep getting an error on the emax:

"Aborted - back ACK for packet #0000".

I've searched online and looked through my manual, but no hints as to
what I'm doing wrong. Anyone seen this error?
