How do you establish RS422 connection with Mac and EMAX SE?

I have Sound Designer for EMAX 1.12 running on my Mac and the RS422 Serial Cable connected. I also loaded the tweaked OS as recommend on EMXP.net Emax SE 1.1 upgraded to rev 4.0: EmaxSE11_sd40.zip Do I have to put the EMAX into some kind of mode? there is nothing in the manual it seems.
