Software for manage EMAX II banks

Software for manage EMAX II banks

2012-04-11 by jaumemod

Hi Folks!

Do anyone known a PC or MAC OS X software for manage EMAX II banks? Actually I just do it converting EMAX II samples to SF2 in EMXP and after this I manage layers and areas, put in or put off sounds in a bank in Awave.

THX.

- Alchemy 3 and Sound Designer II can do sample editing on the Emax-II but you'll need RS422/MIDI communication. This software requires older Mac OS versions, like system 7.
- Sound Designer for Emax has more features on top of sample editing and sample transfer. It can change almost any parameter of the Emax.
Again, you need RS422 communication. Moreover Sound Designer for Emax was developed for the Emax, not for the Emax-II. As a consequence, some functions don't work (bank transfer from Emax-II to Mac for instance) and samples larger than 512K sample points are not supported. This software requires older Mac OS versions, like system 6 or 7.
- EMXP is not intended to be a true bank/preset editor. It's rather a file/disk utility, a conversion tool and a communication tool. But it supports sample tranfers to/from Emax-II via MIDI and RS422. And the next version will also support very basic bank construction like it already does for Emulator-I (editing of existing EB2/EM2 banks will not be supported though, only editing of banks that have initially be created in EMXP will be supported).

What I do when I want to create Emax-II banks with PC software is construct a SF2 bank in the free Viena SF2 editor and convert them to Emax-II with EMXP.
Editing of existing banks can also be done by converting them first to SF2 with EMXP, then edit them in Viena (or Awave like you seem to do), and convert them back to Emax-II with EMXP.
The only smalle inconvenience is that Viena does not warn for Emax-II specific limits but in practice this is not a big problem...

Re: Software for manage EMAX II banks

Alternative option I considered it's convert EMAX II samples to SF2 or wav and those import to EXS24 Logic sample. I can do the same like in Awave, for general knowledge. Once finished editing in EXS24 turn to convert in EMXP. Work-save-unplug-plug-convert-save-burn- way to Emax......A bit tedius....:-(
