I do have a copy, but it's an original printed one... not a small document, and I'm not set up to scan something like that. I think one of the reasons it's not available online for direct download anywhere will be hosted file size. ------- Original message -------

I believe Rob who ran Emu Archive has the official "right to copy" license from Emu.... hence it isn't legal to just share it or post it.... Is it ok to share it or is it robs "monopoly" to sell it. Otherwise, if you give me the name of a free fileserver I can upload it (76mb). I don't know where I found it, but I know I downloaded it somewhere... In return I hope that you will help me with my new thread.

It is not legal to share it, that is what was said. I don't know about any "monopoly" you talk about. It was a very expensive $15 USD to purchase legally... of note- Rob is a community member who has spent much time in the past doing things for members of the community and long time with discussions on Emu to get things for us. He is not some big corporation that is wealthy to steal from him. Not saying that stealing is ever correct, but I am saying that it is worse when you even steal from someone who can less afford the theft. Get my point? freddy please dont upload the manual it took ages for him to get the licence from emu in that if its made freely available that rob could be liable for it as he has the licencing writes from emu to distribute it he most proberly has to pay a fee to emu also so if its flooded on the net he might be liable for all the payments of its down load also things like this can also get the forum closed down copywrite is copywrite and openly asking or saying about distribution wether for profit or none profit is still elegal

Ok I won't do it. A shame that someone uploaded it once, knowing that rob could get into trouble... If you have just have a very small question I think it's no problem if someone including answers otherwise contact rob. --- In emax@yahoogroups.com, "jammie" <jammie.emma@...> wrote:

Just because something isn't supported does not mean that the item is now part of public domain (free). If I made music you couldn't have it for free unless I SAID you could have it for free. E-mu has never said this was available for free, unlike some sample disks, etc On Mon, Jun 4, 2012 at 1:32 PM, krikor kouchian <krikorola@...> wrote: > how come as this unit is not even supported by emu anymore? > > http://www.krikor.fr > +33632199413 > > bookings: > France/Suisse/Benelux: fanyktdj@... > World: laetitia@... > > > 2012/6/4 Ted Summers <djtbs1@...> > > > of note- Rob is a community member who has spent much time in the past > > doing things for members of the community and long time with discussions > on > > Emu to get things for us. > > > > He is not some big corporation that is wealthy to steal from him. > > > > Not saying that stealing is ever correct, but I am saying that it is > worse > > when you even steal from someone who can less afford the theft. > > > > Get my point? > > > > > > > > On Mon, Jun 4, 2012 at 1:15 PM, Ted Summers <djtbs1@...> wrote: > > > > > It is not legal to share it, that is what was said. Sorry I didn't know that. I do not know when or where I found it but the fact that I found it meant to me that it can't be illegal. I thought is like the owner manuals or the getting started manual or these memory upgrade manuals. It's good that we discussed it here.

ok, manuals are all over the web i first assume this was the same for this. i didn't follow the whole discussion too. i buy manuals when i need them. i Just bought one for my dead RZ1, i paid 22 euros for a not so good xerox. http://www.krikor.fr +33632199413 bookings: France/Suisse/Benelux: fanyktdj@... Hi - it seems the people behind the HxC floppy emulator is coming out with a new - much better designed - floppy emulator: http://www.lotharek.pl/product.php?pid=42 According to the info it should be 100 percent compatible with the older versions - which would mean support for the Emax. I think it looks pretty good and I am on the edge of ordering one. Anyone with experience with the HxC emulators? http://hxc2001.free.fr/floppy_drive_emulator/ /C [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

yes it does work and the new 3.5 drive is perfect have one here that im testing on synths with floppy drives my list for testing at the moment is sy85 sy99 with a special conversion board flat cable to 34pin floppy idc connection korg m1 t1 01w gem s2turbo ensoniq eps classic sd1 ts10/12 tx16w fz1/fz10 if you can do scsi conversion on your board then i would go for that as the costs of the emulator and the scsi upgrade with the scsi cf drives are comparable but if you are unlucky enough to own a rev2 or 1 board that cant be upgraded not many of those about then the floppy emulator is up your street

Really! Wow! The thing why I would prefer the floppy emulator is because I think the cf kits for the Emax looks so bad. I am most interested in how it will perform with the Casio FZ1 as well - got one of those too and I would love to use the emulator for that one as well. /C >________________________________ > From: jammie <jammie.emma@...> >To: emax@yahoogroups.com >Sent: Tuesday, June 5, 2012 1:53 PM >Subject: Re: [emax] Anyone tried the HxC Floppy Emulator? > > > >yes it does work and the new 3.5 drive is perfect have one here that im testing on synths with floppy drives > >my list for testing at the moment is sy85 sy99 with a special conversion board flat cable to 34pin floppy idc connection > >korg m1 t1 01w > >gem s2turbo > >ensoniq eps classic > >sd1 ts10/12 > >tx16w > >fz1/fz10 > >if you can do scsi conversion on your board then i would go for that as the costs of the emulator and the scsi upgrade with the scsi cf drives are comparable > >but if you are unlucky enough to own a rev2 or 1 board that cant be upgraded not many of those about then the floppy emulator is up your street >----- Original Message ----- >From: Carl Lofgren >To: emax@yahoogroups.com >Sent: Tuesday, June 05, 2012 12:05 PM >Subject: [emax] Anyone tried the HxC Floppy Emulator? > >Hi - it seems the people behind the HxC floppy emulator is coming out with a new - much better designed - floppy emulator: http://www.lotharek.pl/product.php?pid=42 > >According to the info it should be 100 percent compatible with the older versions - which would mean support for the Emax. The SCSI card reader is far far faster in an Emax. Sounds load almost instantly. The HXC is a great unit (I have 4 of them) but I would personally suggest limiting them to units without SCSI. I have 3 Emax's with the SCSI card reader and slim floppy combo and I love it. It gives me the best of both worlds. -Scott On 2012-06-05, at 10:29 AM, Carl Lofgren <carl_lofgren@...> wrote: Really! It all depends on what drive you get. I don't think my Emax 1 or 2 keyboard look bad at all (granted they aren't the PCD-50b). It would have been nice if the PCD-47b worked in Emax as those the cards don't stick out- but alas no dice! i have fitted 10 cf drives with slim floppys and they dont look bad at all apart from being white they add value to te machine and for bank changes and loading there fast the floppy emulator was a very bad diy so i made a 3.5" version and told about it on the floppy emulator forum and that i was using a new smal 16x2 display and asked if they could change the layout of the pcb as i had to on mine make additional boards with connectors to get them to be positioned on the front panel from my discussions the rev f was design and put into production becuase i told them that when a 1 for 1 replacement 3.5" floppy size drive would make more people commit to buying and installing as it looked awful the way it was if you go to the floppy emulator forum you will see ythe discusions about it and how the rev f came to be

I remember that the same discussion took place about one year ago on this group. It's clear that the material is copyrighted, and that there's no trace of E-Mu giving up the copyright on their service manuals. So publishing it for free or selling it without distribution rights can be considered illegal. Despite this facts, during the same discussion last year a member of this group decided to upload that service manual temporarily. So perhaps you have taken the opportunity to download it at that time. Or someone who did has re-uploaded it somewhere else (the unfortunate cascade effect...) For people who want this service manual: - the preferred way would (have been ?) to contact Rob for this, but I'm not sure if he still has time to offer these services - an alternative way is to buy it from www.musicparts.com, although it's not clear if they have distribution rights (but if they don't, it wouldn't be very smart of them to run a public commercial website dedicated to selling this kind of material...). Be aware that musicparts is quite expensive, especially when compared to Rob's "shop". But the download service is instant and scan quality is good. ///E-Synthesist --- In emax@yahoogroups.com, "freddy1771994" <freddy1771994@...> wrote:

Jammie- I take his comment as disrespectful of the fact that people here respect intellectual property law. Those of us long time members don't want this group shutdown due to some butthead violating laws and terms of agreement. Do you have a comment da23ad to clarify / explain your position? If not, I would respectfully request the moderator to remove him from the group. Regards, Ted On Jun 6, 2012, at 4:48 PM, jammie wrote: why is it laugh out loud at my comment

that the problem with a lot of people today they think every thing should be free and is there given right but a lot of us spend have spent years buying making and producing sample banks i have been sampling since 1986 when i brought my first mirage i then went and did electrical electronics engineering degree so that i could understand how these things work i have been repairing synths since 1989 in 1991 i became an authorized ensoniq tech for a british company fixing synths for lots of manufacturers we fixed akai emu roland kurzweil ensoniq sequential and i have had the privelidge to work on the greatest and played the greatest synths ever made i have been collecting synths of the ones i like best i own all the best emu and ensoniq synths and performed upgrades now the 2 upmost people for allowing use to upgrade the emax for scsi is ted and rob with out these dedicated people you would not have scsi as emu gave up on the machine aswell as all there hardware synths and samplers you cant even download manuals or os any more with out this community people would be high and dry sampling takes lots of time i do professional sound banks for synths and samplers and my latest 500 sample bnk collection was for the solaris by the synth guru john bowen of prophet vs mini moog korg wavestation oasis system and the great soft ware emulations using dsp im also the installer for the korg dss1-x upgrade and soon tobe dsm1 upgrade the best reason for hardware is that its hard to steel the samples but software instruments some one brings one out a week later you see it for sale on ebay as a copy the world is full of people after a quick buck of off someone elses back i was making the statement that we needed to keep this forum clean as its easy to shut them down and many users would be lost with out it its full of tech questions and help is given on every aspect having schems wont help if you dpont understand logic and the tables and the pulse wave forms data if you aint got a oscillator to expect the waveforms to see the signal you should be getting how are you going to now whats wrong only by advice from the members who do know if 1 idiot becuase of there stupidity get us closed down then that would be all lost and mine julians teds advice would be lost and esynthesis as with out him making banks and disks and images tht wuld be lost to so this is why i was try to show what happens when people dont stick to the law look at the download site the owner of mega uplaod a russian was just sentenced for years in prison for hosting such material and making millions from subscribers if you got nothing good to say say nothing as then you wont get people upset thankyou ted and rob for being thre for the community ----- Original Message -----

yes anything that can keep these machines going for futur use is great
dd/sd disk are becoming very rare and they cost almost £1 for each disk
so 10-0 floppy disks is £100
thats nearly the cost of the drive
ontop of that you need to back up the floppy disk at least every 5 years as the tape fails so to keep the library alive it costs lots of money and disk
they also take up lots of room
an sd card are tiny and fit 100 floppy images on
i have 3000 floppy disk with samples on for various machines
and this sd card drive is the ultimate as we can image our disks and keep on sa hard drive for futur use
if through my tests with the sy99 and sy85 are successful then ill be changing those

Ok , 1- If you get upset over this , that's on you pal , that's nobodyelse fault. 2- Comparing Megaupload case and this , is just plain stupid in my opinion. How can you compare a a dude making a lot of money with website involving millions of users downloading content illegally AND one service manual of an device that is not even for sale anymore ?? That alone shows that you are trying to scare people... It reminds me of that phone seller woman that once told me that Apple is actually tracking people who use jailbroken iphones and they will take them to court... I laughed BIG TIME ! 3- I think Emu has better things to do with its money than having people on their payroll to hunt guys on yahoo group .... There are people on eBay selling User manuals and Service manuals EVERYDAY ! 4- You REALLY dont have to tell us about your life to justify anything about what you said. 5- If the service manual was for sale on Emu's site or on any other Emu authorized sites , for a reasonnable price of course , I would have bought it , but it is not , so what ? I should just give up ? Alright... end of the conversation...Enough with this none sense. --- In emax@yahoogroups.com, "jammie" <jammie.emma@...> wrote:

In response: #1 - Don't go around insulting the people in the community who have helped HUNDREDS of others at no cost to the members of the group. #2 - I can say honestly I believe you are not a lawyer, and obviously don't care about fallout from what you would consider a "minor infraction." I have seen Yahoo Groups and similar disbanded for conduct that some would say the reaction was harsh. But the members don't get a say once misconduct has happened. So with the above, it also appears you have no consideration for the impact your actions could have on the others of this group. Your reply comments reinforce this belief. #3- You can think what you want until you get the cease and desist letter. You have heard of patent trolls haven't you? They seem to have nothing better to do than search for things like this to make a buck. I have seen cease and desist letters threatening legal action (no, not "generally" on the web, but to a member HERE- and not Jammie either). So you are speaking out of no knowledge of the history of the group or it's membership. #4- The service manual is available from Rob for $15 USD last I checked. That is not a lot of money. The avenue(s) to legally purchase the product were made available to you. We don't condone illegal activity on this forum. It violates the End User Terms of Service for Yahoo Groups. If you wish to do that, seek life elsewhere. Any further conduct which would be against the Terms of Service will be noted, and your ban will be officially requested of the moderator. I will also forward all email thread content to Yahoo for breach of Terms of Service by the user. Any further trolling or inflammatory email from you, and your ban will be officially requested of the moderator. Several members have left this group specifically because of activity of that nature here. This is supposed to be a positive community, we don't need or want any negativity here. ---- NOW THAT is the end of the conversation---- Regards, Ted On Thu, Jun 7, 2012 at 8:11 AM, da23ad <da23ad@...> wrote: > ** > > > Ok , > 1- If you get upset over this , that's on you pal , that's nobodyelse > fault. > > 2- Comparing Megaupload case and this , is just plain stupid in my > opinion. Hey guys - can you please stop? Both of you are actually right. It's damn stupid that Creative is still holding on to the copyright on matters like this - it's a move that benefits no one. But how stupid that may be - it's still their property which make it their choice. Please? Can you stop? I'll promise I'll upload some tasty samples if you do. As soon as the damn delivery company brings me my new SE HD. /C [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Hi everyone, I am a Mac (as well as an Emax 1 and Mirage) user. I can see I'm missing out on not being able to use a PC to manage my library. So I was wondering if someone on the board could recommend a specific model (preferably a laptop; I'm aware that the software I'm looking to use requires a "native" floppy drive), as well as the preferred OS. I see a lot of PCs at swap meets and such, but I'm hesitant to pick up a cheap one without knowing a bit more. If someone is selling something like this, I'd be interested in that too. Finally, if anyone has had experience with PC os running on a Mac (Bootcamp, VMC, etc... I know the floppy might be a problem there), I'm interested in hearing about that as well. Over time, I've messaged this group for everything related to the upgrade, care and upkeep for this machine (and the Mirage), and I've always received replies that were crucially helpful, and kind. I can honestly say that I wouldn't have gotten as much out of the hardware if it weren't for the generous and knowledgeable people on this forum. So thank you all for that. Sincerely, J. its people like you that makes me want to not bother giving advice i can tell people about my self if i want dont need your permission if you dont like it dont read it but trolling me is not on we told you the avenue to get the manual correctly and yes i also gave the email link to robs new site use it as for me i have the knowledge and its mine to give im on hundreds of forums and moderate a lot also and im never abused like this for my advice so if you are unhappy with what advice i give then dont read it thankyou and moderator if this person keeps on attacking me then i would like to be removed from the community as my time and knowledge would be better put to people who apreciate it

I really do appreciate your help, as I appreciate all of those who offer their help to keep the emax run! Why don't you just spend this 15$ and that's it? btw, I don't know what you want with it. It just contains information about the used parts and huge schematics [...] seriously, you should learn to show some more respect.

May I suggest that all those people who are involved in this discussion please take it out individually. There is no need for everybody to see and hear you guys insult each other. Do not respond to the list. Please? /C >________________________________ > From: freddy1771994 <freddy1771994@yahoo.com> >To: emax@yahoogroups.com >Sent: Thursday, June 7, 2012 8:36 PM >Subject: [emax] Re: EMu Emax 1 Service manual > > > >I really do appreciate your help, as I appreciate all of those who offer their help to keep the emax run! > >Why don't you just spend this 15$ and that's it? > >btw, I don't know what you want with it.
