Slim Floppy in EMAX Rack

Slim Floppy in EMAX Rack

2013-01-22 by krikor kouchian

Hi,

i'm working on my emax to get the slim floppy in, but i was wondering how
you guys made it stay on top of the Scsi card reader? it's a bit thiner and
i don't see how i can do it except by gluing it to the top of the Card
reader.

Also i ordered a PCD-60b as replacement, it fits and looks exactly the
same, except for the bezel that i need to dremel a bit.
I haven't tested it yet, i will report as soon as i do, i noticed that the
pcmcia adaptor doesn't stick out like on the 50b version, so if it works
that would be a better solution as they are cheaper on ebay those days.

Yes - let us know regards PCB-60B.
Especially if the PC Card doesn't stick out.

As to the slim floppy on the top- simple.

For rack I modify the existing bracket on one side and the other side I
fabricate an add on bracket.

For Keyboard, I get two flat pieces of metal.
drill holes in the side to mount to the sides of the 3.5" media drive.
The holes line up from to back.
So then you just have to do the measurement from top to bottom and add some
small spacers to center the floppy drive on top of the other one.

if I recall correctly it is .9 inches from the side hole on media drive in
the upwards direction to drill the holes for the slim floppy mounting.

The slim floppy uses 2.6mm screws- but I don't know the length exactly.
I can tell you that if the length of the 2.6mm screws are too long on the
front, the floppy won't eject properly and also can cause the drive to not
read the disk properly (therefore causing emax not to boot).

Fix the length problem, and the same disk will boot it ok.

I will take a pict of the reader with the card and send it to you regarding
the pc card.
would you have a pict of the brackets?

no. I don't have a picture.
but I basically put the slim floppy on top of the media drive.
Measured from top to bottom the made it a quarter inch shorter height-wise.
Front to back I made it about 3/4 an inch longer than the holes are.

Then figured out the placement for the holes for the media drive first,
then the slim floppy from there (.9 inches upwards).

no- but if you make it exactly the same height and you incorrectly measure
the holes for the media drive, you have no room for adjustment / correction.
By making it not quite as tall as the two drives, you give yourself a
little wiggle room for mistake / adjustment.

Most people aren't "machine shop" accurate, and don't have CNC lathe, and
machinist tools.

Ok thanks
from what i saw, it's better i use the original bracket holes for the
floppy and make new ones for the slim floppy, i was thinking of putting
some 1mm rubber pieces between the two reader.
i'm gonna try that 2morrow and report!
thank you Ted

Re: [emax] Slim Floppy in EMAX Rack

2013-01-23 by Ted Summers

If you mean the Emax rack- yes you use both original brackets and mod them.

If you mean the keyobard- you attach the media drive to the plate with the mod wheels just like the original floppy, then you attach the slim floppy to the SIDES of the media drive with the brackets you make.

Ok thanks
from what i saw, it's better i use the original bracket holes for the
floppy and make new ones for the slim floppy, i was thinking of putting
some 1mm rubber pieces between the two reader.
i'm gonna try that 2morrow and report!
thank you Ted
