Emax disks software rev

Emax disks software rev

2013-04-01 by Julio Herrera

Hi folks,

New to the group and to the Emax samplers. Never have worked with any kind of samplers (mostly keyboards) and decided to grab a bargain on eBay (for an Emax I) and drove to L.A. (From Tijuana) to get another one that says it's an SE.

Here is my problem. I have about a hundred disks (original Emax with it's ZD #) and only the ones that are the oldest (based on the year on it) are workable as the other ones when trying to do the Preset Management it gives me the "Different Software Rev" error... How can I use all of these disks?

Really appreciate all the support that all of you knowledgeable Emax users can provide.

Thanks

Emax SE disk is availabe in the files section.
OS disks also available in the files, and you can use EMXP to create disks.

SCSI update (if your unit doesn't have SCSI) available from me.
Contact me off list if you need the latter.

Re: Emax disks software rev

Hi Ted,

Thanks for your reply. One question though, once I download the SE disk I assume I have to install it on the Emax I to upgrade? Will this help my Emax I read and work with the disks that have the different software rev? If that is the case how come I get the same error with the Emax I SE that ai have? Don't understand that part.

Thanks for the advice!

Re: [emax] Re: Emax disks software rev

There are several OS'es.
3.2
HD 1.0
HD 1.1
SE
SE +HD 1.0
SE + HD 1.1
PLUS OS 1.0 (SE + HD + external HD support)

You indicate you have SE, but it's possible the other disk you are looking at may be HD-capable and if you don't have SCSI, then those won't boot it.

You can check the version of the OS that does boot it using the menu, and I would start there.

Re: [emax] Emax disks software rev

2013-04-02 by Michael Wisbech

Try to bootYOur Emax with the ones saying "Different Software Rev".
as emax is booted with a disk it reads and loads the software rev.,
now when trying to do something it reads the disk again, but now you
have inserted another software rev. and it does not recognise something.
a way around is either to put the never software into the old disk. Or
simply switch the OS disks when working, so you work on a 'soundset' and
a disk belonging to one software rev. but the disk you have inserted
belongs to a different 'the Booted' software rev. . Just remember if
doing things like that, to Write protect the disk........ or you will
forget and overwrite the wrong disk.
Easier would be to copy the Software to the old disks. .

Re: Emax disks software rev

Hi Mike,

Starting the Emax with the ones saying "Different Software Rev" worked. I still want to copy the newer software into the old disk as suggested but I was thrilled to see that I can use those disks at least with a workaround.

Thanks

Re: Emax disks software rev

Hi Ted,

How can I check the version of the OS that is on each specific disk? Is that on the actual Emax or on the PC?

Thanks

Re: [emax] Re: Emax disks software rev

2013-04-03 by Ted Summers

After you boot the Emax from your disk, go Master then Special in the menu. <ENTER>
Move the data slider completely to the top and it will reveal the OS that is currently booted.

All this information is available in the manuals.
If you don't have them you can get them here:
