So what was the ETA on building these? Is 'Julian' or E-Synthesis selling these? How much are they and when will they be available? I like this solution a bit better for now verses trying to shoehorn the SD card reader in there. Or am I missing the magic. Crap I just want something that works! SD4E2 is being a turd on allowing me to import voices I have on CD over to the EII. So my libraries are useless until I find a working solution.

I was having a weird problem with SD4E2 recognizing my E2 banks off my archive CD as well. I had to end op using that mac utility file translator deal. On my Mac SD4E2 only recognizes files as SFIL not E2BK. Maybe thats a unique problem to my system. Its was a pain to have to go thru these extra steps would have liked for it to just have worked. Oh well! such is the world of vinatge sampler technology, Mum should have never taken me to that music store back in 85 and gotten me hooked on this stuff. This weekend I am picking up an old G3 off Craigslist. The translator app works for some files but not for the EII library files. It's weird.
The G3 is running 10.3 OS. So I will rip those from CD to it's internal zip and then try that zip disk on the Mac SE with SCSI zip. That's kinda taking
the scenic route but it's gotta work. My only other challenge is getting my Mac SE to see the scsi zip fully. It's showing up by having used the SCSI Probe utility as Iomega Zip 100, but not in the file structure in the Mac. What am I doing wrong? I can't drill down on anything or see the drive as a selectable option besides the internal floppy and the on board hard disk, so I would say it's not properly Mounted at this point. I think I need a legacy Iomega floppy driver or download for old legacy Macs which I am not seeing online. I am close I think but not 100%. Hi James:
You should download a "vintage" Mac utility called Lido. It is available for free if you search around for it. Put that on a floppy, install it on your old Mac and it will allow the Mac to mount the Zip drive.I hope that helps!Out of curiosity, I don't quite follow the problem you are having with sending voices from your Mac SE to your EII. It's not 100 clear to me what you actually want to do (or are doing). Basically, SoundDesigner for EII is able to - either transfer individual voices - or transfer complete sound banks Which of the two are you interested in ? EMXP is capable of converting complete EII sound banks into other sampler format sound banks (and vice versa), but that's not what you are looking for I guess. EMXP can also transfer complete sound banks to/from the EII via RS422, just like SoundDesigner for EII can; in one of the next versions EMXP will also be capable of transferring individual voices. If you want to use EMXP (windows PC) for transferring files, you need the EmuComBox or Emu-Ser device. Getting/building this device is supposed to be a (simple) DIY project, so it's not really for sale anywhere. But I will probably build a small batch of them and I may ship them to some people. Current problem however is that some of the parts I need are in backorder, so I'm waiting, and waiting, and waiting ... :-) If you want to use the Mac SoundDesigner - EII transfer method, and want to know how to make sure that the files will be recognized on the Mac, you can read pages 88-89 in the EMXP manual. Regarding the choice between the HxC SD card solution and the RS422 solution: it depends on what you want. I personally will use both. - The SD Card is the best solution if you want a "native" (built-in) hard disk like storage in the EII for your banks. E.g. for using it at a gig. If you use RS422 for this purpose, you will also need a computer, and use the computer as the "external" hard disk. - If you want to be able to quickly try out some banks in the studio however, the RS422 option may be the best one, because the "workflow" is easier (no DJ-ing with SD cards :-) and the speed is probably faster. - Also, (in the future with EMXP and currently with SoundDesigner), the RS422 allows for sending individual samples (voices). The SD Card works with full floppy disk images/sound banks only. - But: the SD Card solution allows to boot the EII from SD card; RS422 does not support that by design. What is still unclear about the SD card solution is: - Will the speed be the same as the floppy drive speed, or will it be faster ? Probably it will be the same speed (28 seconds for loading a bank), but let's wait for the final conclusions from HxC side. Note that the RS422 is faster (between 13 seconds and 20 seconds) - (more important:) Will the SD card solution allow the EII to SAVE banks to the SD card, or only LOAD them ? Currently the HxC is more limited in writing than in reading, and according to the current specs it would not be able to write. But I also heard that they are working on it and making it as generic as for the read operations. Anyway, RS422 allows both directions. I'm tempted to drop the $800 for the whole Northstar library and just call it a day. But then where do I get the rest of the other tones from other vendors from back in the day. If someone offered a service to transfer the sounds I received from Rob on disk to burn to floppy I would consider this if the price was fair. This is insane.
