Well, IMHO, it is not worth it to buy an older library today (older as in stuff like Advanced Orchestra) unless you like the sound and can get it cheap enough. My advice to you is to get VSL's Opus 1. It is a lower-cost version of VSL that sells for around $1000. I don't own it but the demos that I've heard sound great. It not only includes strings but the entire orchestra. Unfortunately, if you wanted to cut down the cost, you can't get the Opus 1 strings separately. It comes in a native exs-24 format so you wouldn't have any conversions to do and, since there is no natural reverb on the samples, you can get a dry sound or a very wet sound if you like.
