Is Disk 2 a Mixed Mode disk? Does the docs say that Disk 2 is really an 
Akai disk (or has Akai data)? If not, what file format are the samples 
supposed to be in?

Are you on OS9? If so, see the FAQ about Mixed-Mode Akai CD's. If OSX, 
perhaps there are no "samples" on the CD. For another look, try downloading 
Translator Free and see if that does the same thing.
