Yes, that is exactly what I meant. Since they are in a single file to begin
with, it would simplify file management.

Yeah, of course. That's what i do now because there is no other way.

Yes, this is a good suggestion. Since I had been starting with files that
don't already have the regions defined though, I found a more efficient way. I
drag the single long audio file into the arrange window; then do a strip
silence on it which replaces the single region with many smaller ones in the
arrange window.

Then, unfortunately, I need to go into the sample edit window and tweak the
start and end times of each region. Once that is done, I select the whole
track (all the regions) in the arrange and use the convert regions to
individual audio files function. This way it is like a batch convert to make
all the regions separate files. And then of course in an EXS instrument I can
import all the regions at once and automatically map them chromatically. This
method works fine, but it would simplify file management if i could simply
leave the original file as is.

Yes; I use this feature all the time. When I have some time to kill, I import
some drum loop audio files into Logic. I then create regions with good loop
points and export the region definitions. Then I rename the file to include
the bpm of the loop. That way when I am searching for loops later, I can
quickly eyeball the tempos, add the files to my current song, and import the
SD ll regions (without having to refer back to the CD documentation). This is
great since I keep most of my CDs permanently online.
