in its basic form its a process of chopping up the various parts of 
a loop and then being able to trigger those parts together so they 
all reform the original loop, in this way the loop can be tempo 
controlled. i have several specrasonics libraries and i have to 
say they are superb to work with. i also tend to extract various 
segments from those loops (kick drums, snares etc) and create 
my own loops and hits to programme with...again with superb 
results.
