Internet Explorer is playing them straight away, unless you install a plugin such as Beatnik. Of course IE doesn't have its own soundsources, but you can assign .mid files to use something like Microsoft's GM Synth or others for it (similar to the Quicktime synth I guess). I am using a Yamaha QY70 for MIDI files though as that MS synth is sounding too cheesy. > I wonder if there are any differences in how a .mid will sound on a PC /Mac? Defenitely. I think that the build in Quicktime synth actually isn't so bad at all - while the PC equivalent certainly is. Further, there's a lot of people using plugins (as said, such as Beatnik), coming with theitr own soundsources, or their onboard soundcard GM sounds - or, if you are a musician, some GM compatible expander. I think there's hardly more than 4-5 out of people using even a similar MIDI playback device on PCs (most PCs I've seen had the internal soundcard assigned by default which certainly results in pretty much different playback results, usually they've been rather cheesy...). > (For those with plenty of time.
