About 6 weeks ago I received an email on the Logic Users list from an Emagic employee saying that all VSTi's offered by Emagic now have the version 5 copy protection scheme so that one would no longer need to send in one's installer CD-ROM to get the permanent authorization. I waited a week then ordered the EXS24 from Audiomidi.com. I received the parcel a few days later and found that it was the version 4 package. Rather than sending this back (to Audiomidi.com), I pre-registered online. I received no response. I wrote to LUG what I should do next and Markus Fritz told me I should contact my distributor (Emagic USA). I did so by email, no response. I telephoned them, they said I should email the CD-ROM. That same day I sent it via Priority Mail (which in the US assures a 3 day delivery time to Emagic USA, which has its address far from any mail hub). Furthermore, I insured it for $300 and also paid for "return receipt requested" -- I wanted to know that they received it. That was on 9 May, a Thursday. I never received a return receipt. I checked the status of the package on the USPS web site and was told there that it was delivered on 13 May, Monday (this would have been right on schedule). However, it seems that not only Emagic can fail to process such packages in a timely manner but it is a veritable black hole with the USPS too. Some 12 days after I sent this package off I contacted Emagic USA and they could not tell me if they received the package. They told me they "would look into it" and tell me what was what. Apparently they are still "looking into it" because I have not heard anything from them. My temp authorization expires in 5 days on something I paid $300 for on the assumption that I would have a valid product to work with. I am now afraid to use the EXS because I cannot count on it "being there" on Friday of this week. I have seen a lot of whiney messages on the LUG and now I understand why. As some of them have said, this is not professional behavior. Bob Vandiver, Portland Oregon PS - Yes I insured the parcel. However, the great USPS assures me that the package was delivered so good luck collecting that insurance.
