I've been doing that for years too. One problem I find is that the 
Apple menu seems to "forget" what should be in the hierarchical menus 
from time to time. (Yes, I do rebuild my dektop). I have to open the 
Apple Menu Items folder, drag an item out, then back again, and all 
is fixed. Strange....does that happen to you?
