Paul, if you are on PC I most likely wouldn't buy the EXS but Kontakt
instead (especially if you plan to stay on PC). I wouldn't expect *too* much
updates for the EXS anymore, while Kontakt most likely will experience quite
some.
Sure, Kontakt is a bit more expensive, it also uses up a bit more CPU power,
but it defenitely is very flexible, easy to handle and great sounding. I
recommend downloading N.I.'s demo.
If you are on Mac, the picture might be different (plus there's no Mac
version of Kontakt yet). In that case I'd most likely go for the EXS. It's a
stable and efficient workhorse, so you can't do much wrong.
