problem with Akai import mapping for drums

2002-07-12 by jasonc3535

Logic Audio Gold Mac 4.8.1
EXS24
Mac G4 733 Quicksilver, 1.152 GB Ram
Mac OS 9.2.1

Motu 828 Firewire
Emagic AMT8

SoundScan Volume 10 Acoustic Drums Akai s1000 CD
The CD is a mixed mode Akai CD ROM and Audio Tracks

First of all, I avoided the problems with the CD not being
recognized by EXS24 because it is mixed mode. The first
method that worked for me was to disable the Apple CD/DVD
drivers, and the second method was to burn a new Akai CD in
Toast 4.2, but by first DELETING the audio tracks. This method in
Toast 4.2 is tricky (I couldn't do this in Toast 5.1.3) - I had
to directly burn by reading from one CD drive, and burning to
another CDRW drive straight-away. since my Mac OS would
never recognize an Akai CD, even in disk image format (Toast
Disk Image or Apple Disk Copy) the direct read and burn method
was necessary. Nonetheless, I succeeded to get the EXS24 to
recognize the Akai CD with no problems after either of these
workarounds.

Problem: After I do an Akai Import of the above CD through the
EXS24, certain individual drum hits in the complete GM drumkits
will contain a "double trigger", and certain other notes will
be empty (no sample). In other words, when I play the note F#1
or G1 (Zone 13, RAW1TOMF1 -LR), - the note contains only one
velocity hit, and it sounds like a double hit on the drum head.
How do I fix this? I looked at the actual stereo sample, and when
I play back the actual sample by itself, it sounds fine and
doesn't have a double hit. So the samples themselves were
imported just fine. Somehow the mapping got messed up, and I
can't figure how to fix it.

By the way, I also used Osmosis to convert the Akai CD into
Samplecell format, and then utilized the Samplecell format from
within the EXS24 - this solution worked better (no empty notes),
but i still get the "double triggers."

I tried an EXS24 Akai Conversion with the Merge Programs
parameter off, and another with the Merge Programs parameter
turned on - it didn't make any difference.

Please advise how I can clean up this mistaken "double
trigger" in the zone or mapping of the EXS24.

Thank you!
