I posted this on the logic list, but then realised I should have sent it here.... I just tried to import "Voices of the Apocalypse" which is in Gigasampler format into the EXS. This sample library does what most giga patches do which is allow you to crossfade between soft samples and loud samples with the mod wheel. The giga import function seems to have messed this up. In the new EXS patch I now have, it made 2 groups, each containing a PP sample and a FF sample for each note with no velocity switching set up. So, when you play this, 4 samples play, it's super loud, sounds bad, and eats up 4 voices with one note. I've had to go in and delete one of the groups, rename the existing one to PP and make a new one called FF, then go through and set each sample to it's appropriate group. When I saw the new "Select by" function in the EXS Editior, I was hoping that this would allow crossfading between groups. It almost does, but not quite. Currently it just let's you switch from one group to another based on controller value, or note #. What we need (and is needed for a proper Giga import) is the abilty to set a volume offset by controller range. In the case of this choir patch, the volume offset for PP samples would be controller 1 range 127-0 and the FF volume offset would be controller 1 range 0- 127. This would cause the PP samples to fade out as you moved the mod wheel up, and the FF samples would fade in, nice and expressive. I realise this could be done with the environment, but it would be a pain in the ass to set up for a whole orchestra.
