First, is the manual easy to understand? Yep! Took me about 10 minutes to grasp, then about a hour to get the finer points of creating instruments. But then I'm a geek, and used to sampler technology so it all made sense at the outset. > Secondly I have an MPC 2000 which I use to Chop samples and play in > various arrangements in a sequence which include adjusting pitches > and so forth to make them fit and sound good. Can the Exs24 do the > same thing? I also use an MPC although mainly for the pads, and sequencing when I cant be $%!*ed to look at another VDU after work! You can use the logic sample editor to 'split' or 'chop' samples in the same way, but its a different process to using the zone system on the MPC. Using exs in conjunction with recycle or another beat splitter is an even more powerful way to chop beats than the MPC offers, as well as a lot faster though. Note that time-stretching is much less painful via logic than the MPC! The MPC's edit speed *really* frustrates me when using it. > Also can it be used to separate drum sounds and make new > drum sequences that can be use quantitized? What are the benefits > compared to a hardware sampler? Thanks for your input. Benefits to hardware - you can save programmes with your track so you just open the logic song and its all loaded ready for you. Thats great. In some ways its a lot more basic than more powerful samplers (e.g. S5000/e6400 etc...) but used in conjunction with other sound-shaping plugins it becomes *more* flexible. Personally I reccommend you get to your local music hardware pusher and have a play and get them to explain the possibilities and see if it fits, or could fit your working style.
