I'm sure Stylus is a very well put together product. I bought Distorted
Reality when it came out cause a friend of mine was praising it. I was
initially very impressed with Eric's programming and processing skills which
are extremely impressive. I used that CD once and after that everything on
there just seemed too pre-processed for my music. It ended up feeling like I
was playing in a band with EP and his stamp was on my music. Then I heard
those types of sounds on TV and whoosh, I forgot about all that library
stuff and started making my own sounds exclusively. Using Distorted Reality
did inspire me to figure out how to use my own processing to get similar
effects, but with every Tom Dick and Harry using those samples on TV it's
hard for me to use them in an original context.

In my world, there's a place for libraries and a place for original sounds
equally. If you make original sounding, cutting edge music only you're going
to need lots of original sounds that you tailor to your own taste. If you
make music that needs lots of real instruments, like orchestras and pianos
and dulcimers, i.e. Film scoring/ Jingles... you'll need libraries.

Keep in mind that one man's "cutting edge" is another man's "mundane" and
vice versa.

PS Why don't you start the discussion on "how to make samples by ourselves"?
