Re-Authorizings from new(different) CD drive

2001-02-04 by Shane Fawkes

Hi All,

Here's a problem that I'm stumped with (my set-up is listed below). I've
been using the ESX since it first came out last year and never had any
problems with re-authorizing it when it asks...just popped in the CD, waited
I'm guessing 30 seconds, and back to it.

I had to replace my OEM CD ROM last week, so I splurged and went with a CDR
burner. Functionally, everything I've done with it has worked flawlessly
except yesterday when I had to re-authorize my ESX. First off, a little
dialogue window popped up in the upper left hand corner of my monitor saying
something to the effect of 'authorizing CD. This may take several minutes'
(I don't recall seeing that before); I then waited 2-3 minutes as the little
task completed bar (sorry, don't know the proper name for it) moved from
left to right. At this point the process should be complete, but I'm then
prompted to reinsert my ESX CD and begin the process all over again.

Does anybody have any Ideas? I don't suspect a problem with the CD burner,
but if going back to an OEM ROM drive is what I need to do to use my ESX,
that's what I'll have to do; I do have another 7 days to return the
replacement drive. Could the fact that I did the original install on a
physically different CD device have anything to do with it? If so, would
uninstalling it from my HD & re-installing it from the new CDR drive solve
the problem?

Any suggestions/thoughts would be appreciated
