CDs of the full set of samples are being sent around the world as we 
speak -- in a kind of chain-mail fashion.  Each of the participants 
picks an instrument to "exs', and when everyone is done, we'll put 
all exs-files in an archive and upload it somewhere.  If you want to

That's the list of participants...  Currently I'm working on the 
piano, which proves to be a tough cookie...  Over 250 samples, most 
badly recorded...

That's a problem indeed. If you make an exs instrument for samples 
you chopped up yourself, how would anyone else be able to recreate 
the same instrument?  So I suppose the best way to go about this, is 
to assign the full sample to various keys or zones, and set different 
start and end points for each zone -- i.e. use the full sample as 
it's available.  Individual users could always decide to cut up and 
trim their copy and re-assign the cut-up samples to the proper zones.
