Sounds like it could be your digital synchronization with the soundcard. Make sure the card is set to auto-sync (or might be called slave). Or try the card set to Master and the Sync settings in Logic to External. Two masters can cause digital clipping and distortion sounds. It definitely sounds like a problem related to the soundcard considering you have the same problem on 2 machines.
