I asked a similar question to Emagic tech support.  Here is their reply:


"The EXS24 will take its needed RAM from the leftover system RAM. If you
have
1 gig assigned to Logic then the EXS24 has less than .5 gigs available. If
VSM (Virtual Sampler memory) is turned on in the EXS24 the EXS24 will not
use very much RAM. 

Third party plugins will sometimes take memory from that assigned to the
host. If the Spectrasonics plugins use the memory assigned to Logic, you
will need to find the proper balance of memory assigned to Logic vs. left
over system RAM. 

Generally you do not need to adjust the default amount of memory assigned to
Logic unless you are using certain third party plugins. Try giving Logic 200
megabytes of RAM and adjust upwards from there."
