You're right - this is a time-consuming pain in the butt. I did the 
whole exercise and it helped incredibly though.
Beware also of the locked file scenario: You must unlock all your VSL 
instrument files for them to be re-written correctly. Then, it's 
advisable to re-lock them again afterwards.

I seem to recall someone on the VSL forum saying they had better luck 
with letting the PM do its own thing somehow. You'd have to search 
the forum though.
