I have this - it's a very live sounding natural kit, and is the best kit for
real drums I've come across. Highly recommended. Natural, real sounds only,
no machine stuff.

This contains good quality samples of drum machines - they are not
multisamples IIRC but most drum machines don't require this anyway. It will
give you a pretty good range of classic drum machine sounds.

DKFH comes with EXS instruments on the CD, no translation necessary.
Dunno about DMD - if it's Akai format it should be translatable without
problems, as the programming isn't particularly sophisticated.

DKFH is my first call kit, I love it. Hats could be better, but the kit
sounds great and the ambience versions really add a sense of liveness.

Dance Mega Drums will do what you want. DKFH is pretty cheap for what it's
is imho. You could also try Wizoo Platinum 24 for more "produced" sounding
kits.

How many velocity layers of multisamples are there on each note?
I'd like to find a good CD Rom of acoustic drums with four or more
(ideally six or seven)velocity splits
for each drum (and cymbal) pre-mapped out for EXS 24.

The DFH is a great kit -- pretty much what you are asking for.

Most drums on this kit have many velocity -- eg snares have 9 velocity layers.
The cymbals have fewer layers but there are five different sets of multisamples
for the hats and many choices for kicks and snares. The samples are in two sets
-- Room and Close and you can run both kits simultaneously and balance the room
sound with the close mic sound.

A new super-sized version DFH II is due at the end of the year/ early 2004 and
it will have many gigs of 24 bit samples with more velocity levels.

Also there is the FXPansion BFD beast coming soon with something like 9 gigs of
samples. This monster will have recordings of all hits with room mics, close
mics, boundary layer (PZM) mics. It will also have 64 velocity layers on each
drum and it is expected to be released pretty soon. Both of these will work as
standalone instruments I believe.

You can read more about BFD on FXpansion's KVR forum.

DFH is on the toontracks site

Depends on the sounds. I just loaded up one of the default kits into the EXS
editor, and it ranges from a couple of layers (toms), 8 or so on hats and
stuff, up to 12 or 13 layers on the snares.

Some of those mp3 demos sound great. I'm seriously considering buying
this library.
