kontakt to exs converter app for mac os x

2003-10-21 by henryjunior2000

Greetings,

I was wondering if anyone can suggest or knows of a Mac OS X application that can
convert kontakt format sample kits to exs24? I am pretty sure chicken translator does
the job but I was wondering if there's anything else?

Many thanks!

On Translator the Kontakt support is about ready, and the PC version
supports it as well as Battery->EXS. That will go Mac shortly.

Garth has told me that NI won't allow release of the Kontakt format
converter, so unless something changes we may never see one.

That isn't _exactly_ the case, it's a little different than that but I'm
not at liberty to discuss the details. NI hasn't restricted anything, but
that's not the whole story.

Kontakt's format is intentionally encrypted to an extent, which makes it
different than other formats, which are sort of WYSIWYG when it comes to
reverse-engineering it.

There have been companies that are very protective, and that's not a bad
thing - they developed a sampler, they can do what they want. (it's not a
moral issue) Customers can do what they want - they can buy other samplers
if they have a problem with that. NI is very open and an excellent company
in my opinion.

I've already placed my order. Have you listened to the demo with
voice-over? Let me warn you: don't... unless you're ready to part with
some of your money! These guys really are a class act. Looks like
November will be trumpet month around here! ;-)

I agree. Inspiring stuff. Now where's that SAM Tuba?

It's amazing...but out of curiosity, what else have you been using
until now for horns, trumpets and trombone?

SAM Horns, SAM Trombones, and Quantum Leap Brass.

In ancient times, the (outrageously overpriced) MIroslav Vitous Winds
and Brass.

And for me, prior to the SAM stuff, a hodgepodge collection from Advanced
Orchestra and old EMU and Roland samples. I have Quantum Leap Brass as
well, but I've found it to be generally underwhelming---particularly the
trumpets (and horrid saxes).

Dear Garth,

Where would I be able to buy this converter when it's ready?
Kontakt upgrade is taking too long and I have deadlines to meet
and a new setup in the studio that requires OS X.

Thanks for any help.
