GIGA-to-EXS Headache HHELLPP!!

GIGA-to-EXS Headache HHELLPP!!

2003-11-02 by pj8531

I know that this issue has been discussed to pieces already, but I'm
having no luck getting GIGA converted to EXS. Here's a quote from
another thread:

"Converting a Giga file to EXS is simple, you just put the file with
the .gig
extension in the sampler instruments folder. Open Logic and an EXS
instance,
select the sound and Logic with automatically start to convert it."

Guess what? NOT!!

I bought Quantum Leap Brass, GIGA format. It came with 31.41 GB of
.PERF files and .GIG files. I placed all .GIG files in my Sampler
Instruments Folder on the same level as Logic 6.3.1. The .PERF file
folder, presumably from the size, contains the .WAV info, which I
could see within the path name while scanning with Project Manager. I
opened Logic 6.3.1 and EXS, no luck when trying to open from EXS's
sticky menu.

Going nuts here. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,
PJ

PJ,

Make sure that the names of the gig files are not too long, or else EXS
will not recognize them. Under 20 letters should do the trick.

PJ,

The only thing I might add would be to try clicking on the 'REFRESH
MENU' (I'm not infront of that machine right now, but I think that's
what it's called) from the options drop down menu of the EXS. I know
I've had to do that on occasion with sound fonts, but I don't recall
needing to do that for any giga conversion.

It sounds like you have the .GIG files in the same folder as the
application file for Logic 6.3.1. The PERF files are only usable in
Gigastudio. These essentially are like a project file which contains
all of the different .GIG files that you have loaded at one time. ie
so you don't have to choose the Trumpet .GIG and the Trombone .GIG to
load manually. Gigastudio does not use .wav files. The samples are
contained entirely in the .GIG files. Put the .GIG files under the
Sampler Instruments folder, hit Refresh Menu in exs-24 and you'll be
able to select and convert them.
