Alternate tunings

Alternate tunings

2004-02-07 by Philip

Hello,

Coming from a thread about "SoftSynths using microtunings" at
<http://groups.yahoo.com/group/16tone/> ,

I just discover that ESX can be played using other tunings than the standard 12 tones
equal temperament (aka 12-tET).

Unfortunately, I don't have this instrument to know what's the file format used by ESX.

Do you know where, or from whom, I could get a demo version of ESX?

Thank you very much in advance!

Kind regards,
Philippe

Hi Philip,

re EXS demo version - maybe at the www.emagic.de website, but i doubt it, maybe
you'd have more luck at your local music store

file formats - well i'm not sure if this is what you're after but the sampler instrument
files are .exs and the audio files are aiff or wave files, the exs can convert files to exs
from giga, akai and soundfont i think

i'm keen to know as I am trying to do the same thing - I have the EXS and want to get
the sample playback happening in different tunings, i followed your link to
Microtuner, but I'm not seeing any ref there to the EXS - where did you find out about
the EXS and alternate tunings?

and does anyone else know anything about achieving alternate tunings in the EXS?

thanx

Charles Lucy wrote at <http://groups.yahoo.com/group/16tone/>:
"I have put tunings in . mtx and scl files at:
<http://www.lucytune.com/midi_and_keyboard/pitch_bend.html>

for Logic Audio users and others to download.
The tuning info for EXS24 seems to be in a proprietary format."

Yes, I'll do that this week and I post here the resulting test.

Thanks for your help!

Philip

Hello "oonagh",

Good news from Charles:

"You microtune the sample program EXS in Logic Audio, by adjusting the
tuning +/- cents for each note in exs editor.

For details and downloadable examples see:

<http://www.lucytune.com/midi_and_keyboard/pitch_bend.html>

The sample mapping and tuning info is then saved as a .exs file."

Can you confirm this?
I have not yet a demo version :-(
Thanks in advance.

Kind regards,
Philippe

hi phillipe,

just tried it and very happy to report total success

u can retune within the edit page of any exs instrument. u may have to make new
"zones" for some notes as in some instruments not every note has its own zone, but
that is pretty straight forward within the menus in the edit page

thanx for your help and hope u get a copy soon!!

Many thanks for your add! ;-)

From Charles:

"You microtune the sample program EXS in Logic Audio, by adjusting the tuning +/-
cents for each note in exs editor.
For details and downloadable examples see:
<http://www.lucytune.com/midi_and_keyboard/pitch_bend.html>

From Christain on the LUG list:
"Ah, yeah, sure, but that would rise the need for as many zones in the EXS instrument
as you have keys.
As i said, you can do it in the environment, either monophonically or even
polyphonically.
Check this out for a monophonic approach that works with any sound source:

<http://groups.yahoo.com/group/logic-users/files/Logic%20Songs/microtune.sit>

If you take a fancy to this, you might even enhance it with presets, for
instance."

Philippe
